If someone knows how to fix this or at least WHY it's like this, please help me out!
Why doesn't google toolbar for Firefox have a gmail button?
I don't use GMail, but I am an avid user of FF. May I suggest you check out this link:

I just did a search on Fireforx.com for GMail addons and there appears to be some cool ones there you can install, but not sure if of any use to you. :S
