What does Gmail's "Report Spam" button do? I know it moves the email to the spam folder - anything else?

I've been getting a ton of very similar spams lately, and I'm wondering if "reporting" the spam is doing any good at all, or just getting them out of my inbox.
What does Gmail's "Report Spam" button do? I know it moves the email to the spam folder - anything else?
It puts the adress of the person who wrote you on a list and it bans it from getting to anybody else again. The reason it is showing up again is because spamers are really good at what they do
Reply:The spam button helps yahoo get money from your emails. NEVER spam unless you want to keep it in your spam folder. If you dont press delete and that mail goes to the gabage
